Already available for a long time now for mobile devices, the Picture in Picture display mode allows you to continue to view the video even when you’re browsing the website.

Youtube might bring one of the most appreciated features from the mobile app to desktop by helping users who want to be able to search for new content without stopping the video they are already watching as the video will continue to render in a smaller screen, in the lower right corner of the screen.

The new display window even brings the player buttons.

Currently in testing, the Picture in Picture feature is only available for a small number of users and the functionality will be enabled world wide in the near future.

It is encouraging to see that regular YouTube accounts are also part of the testing group of users and this means it is less likely for YouTube to limit this feature to paid accounts only.
