The Night King is the most feared character of the Game of Thrones show, with his White Walkers and the Army of the Dead.
The Night King can wake up the dead through a simple gesture of his arm. The Night King is scary not because he has special powers but also because he never explains his plans to his subordinates or – most importantly – to us, the viewers, and the reason why the producers chose to keep the Night King silent is very interesting.
Since the Night King is a character that can’t be found in George R.R. Martin’s books, the producers of the Game of Thrones series, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, pretty much left their imagination go wild to create the Night King.
Weiss said that he likes the idea that the Night King has an old and powerful connection with the people and that it was created with a specific purpose. He also explained that he’s not thinking about the character as an antagonist but rather as a creature that does what it was created to do.
If you ever wandered why the Night King never speaks in the Game of Thrones show, even if he had that ability while he was human, David Benioff and Dan Weiss motivated their choice.
The producers want the Night King to be a veritable bad ass: ” What can he say? Anything he might say would make the impact smaller. He must just be and that’s all!“.
The Night King and others will return on the small screen next month, in April, with the debut of the last and final season of the Game of Thrones series.
Talking about the final Game of Thrones episodes that will show us the biggest and most expensive battle in the history of TV, co-executive producer Bryan Cogman said: ” All these characters will get together to fight a common enemy. This critical moment puts them face to face with the past and how they want to define themselves in front of death“.
