Based on the information available last year, the production of the Star Trek 4 movie was supposed to start at the beginning of 2019.
According to Deadline, the next Star Trek movie has been delayed. One of the reasons is that S.J. Clarkson ( The Defenders, Life on Mars, Jessica Jones ), the first director ever to be in charge of a Star Trek movie, has received an offer to direct the first episode of the Game of Thrones sequel.
Based on the information available last year, the production of the Star Trek 4 movie was supposed to start at the beginning of 2019, but some project development problems have started to appear. TheHollywoodReporter.com sources revealed that Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine abandoned the movie after the producers tried to convince them to accept less money. The producers aimed to reduce the budget of the sequel after the mediocre results recorded by Star Trek: Beyond ( $343 million while the cost of the movie was $185 million ).
Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth had important roles in the Star Trek franchise. Chris Pine played Captain Kirk and Hemsworth played his father, George Kirk, who would have been one of the most important characters in Star Trek 4. Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media now have two options on the table: they either come up with a script that does not involve Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth or they circle back and try to get them on board by offering the money they want.
