Ryan Gosling is set to star alongside Margot Robbie in Warner Bros.’ new Ocean’s Eleven, writes Variety. After starring together as Ken and Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie (pictured), Gosling and Robbie plan to team up again in the new films in the series, directed by Jay Roach and scripted by Carrie Solomon.
While plot details are still under wraps, the prequel is set in 1960s Europe, far from Las Vegas, where the 1960 original and the early 2000s George Clooney trilogy were set.
In “Ocean 8,” a film that featured an all-female team headed by Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway, the action was set in New York.
In addition to her role in the film, Robbie will sign on to produce under her own label, Lucky Chap, along with Lucky Chap’s Tom Ackerley, Michelle Graham, Gary Ross, Olivia Milch and Josey McNamara.
Village Roadshow is involved in the project as an executive producer. News of the high-profile heist comedy was announced in May, with the footnote that the prequel to the film series is in development at Warner Bros. and has not yet been greenlit.
News reports that Warner Bros. is targeting a spring 2023 production start. Robbie and Gosling’s Barbie is scheduled to premiere July 21, 2023.
Gosling will also work with directors Joe and Anthony Russo on a sequel to his Netflix hit The Gray Man. Gosling is repped by CAA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
