A unique car made especially for Princess Diana has been auctioned off at a price no one expected.
The auction took place just days before the 25th anniversary of the tragic death of Prince Charles’ ex-wife.
The buyer is from England and offered 650,000 pounds for the Ford Escort RS Turbo.
However, he will pay 730,000 pounds including taxes.
The car is a first generation Ford Escort, was driven by Princess Diana between 1985 and 1988 and has only 40,000 kilometers on the clock.
The car is black, while all other copies of this type were white. It also has an additional rear view mirror that his bodyguard used and a radio cassette player in the glove compartment. There are special modifications that Buckingham Palace requested at the time.
Diana drove alone while a security guard sat in the passenger seat. Princess Diana, often referred to as the “Queen of Hearts,” died in a car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997, when the driver tried to escape paparazzi chasing her.
Lady Diana, who had been officially divorced for a year, was in the car with her boyfriend Dodi al-Fayed, an Egyptian film producer and son of billionaire Mohammed al-Fayed.
He also lost his life in the accident, as did the driver. The only survivor was the bodyguard hired by Dodi al-Fayed’s father.
