Oracle has begun laying off employees in the United States as part of a global restructuring plan to cut costs

-

Oracle has begun laying off employees in the United States, The Information reported Monday, citing a person with direct knowledge of the matter, Reuters reports.

The publication reported in July that Oracle was considering cutting thousands of jobs worldwide and was seeking cost savings of up to $1 billion. As of May 31, the company employed about 143,000 full-time workers, according to its latest annual report.

Oracle’s layoffs will affect employees in its San Francisco Bay Area offices, according to Monday’s article, which did not specify the number of employees affected. Oracle did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The article also said layoffs are expected in Canada, India and parts of Europe in the coming weeks and months. Tech giants Microsoft, Alphabet and Apple have also talked about cuts or slowing hiring plans in response to rising costs and recession fears.
