Meryl Streep has been nominated in the Best Actress in a leading role category at the Oscar Awards 2018 for her role in “The Post”. This is the 21th nomination for Meryl Streep, and the actress holds the record for most nominations.
“The Post” movie in which Meryl Streep plays the leading role, directed by Steven Spielberg, has also been nominated in the best movie category.
In The Post, Meryl Streep plays Katherine Graham, the first woman in charge of a major publication in the United States – The Washington post. With the help of Ben Bradlee, Graham is trying to work together with The New York Times in order to expose a massive cover up revolving around Government secrets that spans over three decades and four U.S. Presidents. Together, they have to set aside their differences because they are risking their careers and even their freedom, to bring the truth into the light.
What critics are saying about Meryl Streep as Katherine Graham in “The Post”.
“When Meryl Streep was cast, I have to admit I was a bit nervous. Not because Meryl Streep is not great – it’s just because she was too good in the last few years playing a lot of big characters in small movies. I don’t know if its her fault or the fault of the directors, but regardless, I was worried that The Post might be another window for Madame Streep rather than Meryl Streep. I was wrong to be worried.
Her performance in the movie is very carefully crated and specific. Through her we see Graham’s conflict, her hesitation, sadness and loneliness. Meryl Streep plays the decision Graham took, her precaution, the need to convince, the consequences, with an expert precision. It is a very good performance from Meryl Streep which gives Graham all kinds of subtle humanities. Which is very food, considering that she is the psychological essence of the entire enterprise” critic Richard Lawson wrote in Vanity Fair.
There are however some voices who say that, although she is a very good actress, we got too much of Meryl Streep at the Oscar Awards and this performance is not her best one. Still, a general feeling is that Meryl Streep was amazing playing Graham and “The Post” movie is probably Steven Spielberg’s best movie since Munich.
