After years of rumors and speculations, Warner Bros. has confirmed the production of the forth Matrix movie, with Lana Wachowski being in charge of the project.
Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss have already been confirmed as Neo and Trinity but nothing has been said about the return of Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus.
Justin Kroll from Variety has received some details from sources close to the new Matrix 4 movie according to which the producers are now searching for an actor to play the role of “young Morpheus”. Justin Kroll’s tweet about the young Morpheus makes us think about a Matrix prequel but since no official information about the Matrix 4 plot has been released we can also draw the conclusion that the “young Morpheus” might appear in a flashback and Laurence Fishburne might reprise his role.
“Lana Wachowski met with James Cameron to discuss about the 3D technology; they want to use a technology that has never been seen so far, like in the first movie. I have an obligation to my fans to make a movie worthy of the name of the franchise, and this means a revolution in the action genre” Keanu Reeves said in a recent interview.
“We need to come up with a story that will rise to the level of the previous Matrix movies. It will be weird for me to return, but why not ? People die, stories don’t!” Keanu Reeves also said.
The new Matrix 4 movie will start shooting in 2020 in Chicago and the working title is “Project Ice Cream”. The cast of the Matrix 4 movie also includes actor Michael B. Jordan.
Rumors about the Matrix 4 movie have been circling around for more than two years now but, apparently, what convinced producers to confirm and start working on the new Matrix 4 movie is the spectacular return of Keanu Reeves in the spotlight who’s popularity reached a new peak this year thanks to the latest John Wick movie.
The first Matrix movie was released on the big screen in 1999 ( 20 years ago ). The first Matrix movie along with Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions grossed more than $1.6 billion.
