The Russian version of the famous McDonald’s franchise has been unveiled and the new restaurants are getting ready to be opened on Sunday however the name remains a secret until the grand opening.
The logo of the new restaurant which will replace McDonald’s in Russia is represented by two yellow lines and a red circle on a green background – the geometric shapes symbolizing two fries and a hamburger.
The company that took over the McDonald’s buildings in Russia, controlled by Russian oligarch Alexander Govor, has not revealed the name of the new restaurant although there was some speculation earlier.
15 new fast food restaurants will be opened this weekend, according to TASS. ” The green background of the logo symbolizes the quality of the products and services our clients already got used to” a representative of the company said.
McDonald’s left Russia after 30 years
McDonald’s has temporarily shutdown its operations in Russia back in March, less than two weeks after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Last month, McDonald’s announced that the company will leave the Russia market as a consequence of the humanitarian crisis caused by Russia in Ukraine.
McDonald’s also announced that Alexander Gavor, who was in charge of 25 McDonald’s restaurants in Siberia will take over the restaurants. According to a previous agreement, McDonald’s will keep its trademark in Russia and has the option to re-buy the restaurants in the next 15 years.
McDonald’s has operated in Russia for 30 years. The first McDonald’s restaurant made its grand opening in January of 1990 in Moscow, a key moment of the Soviet Union’s economy, shortly before it fell.
