Lady Gaga has confirmed her appearance in “Joker 2” and released a musical teaser on social networks.
The sequel, officially titled “Joker: Folie à Deux,” will star Gaga alongside Joaquin Phoenix, who returns to the role of the Joker, for which he won the Oscar in 2019.
The teaser is based on the song “Cheek to Cheek,” which Gaga covered with Tony Bennett.
Variety reported in June that Lady Gaga was in talks to play Harley Quinn in the sequel to “Joker,” which will be a musical. Director Todd Phillips posted the script cover on Instagram June 7, revealing the title “Folie à deux.”
“Folie à deux” refers to the medical term for a psychosis that affects two or more people, usually members of the same family. The only close friend with whom the Joker could share this disorder is none other than Harley Quinn, a character created in the early 1990s for “Batman: The Animated Series.”
Harley Quinn has proven to be an enduring character for Warner Bros. Margot Robbie played the role three times, in 2016’s “Suicide Squad,” 2020’s “Birds of Prey” and 2021’s “The Suicide Squad,” and Kaley Cuoco gives her voice to the character in the popular HBO Max animated series “Harley Quinn.” , which is now in its third season.
Todd Phillips’ “Joker” became a box-office hit in 2019 with a worldwide box-office take of just over $1 billion.
