Talks about adding ads on Netflix are not new but and most Netflix users have expected this to happen for a long time now. Netflix’s reps were not stray of the topic but they waited for the perfect time and now that time is here.
Ted Sarandos, the co-founder of Netflix, confirmed that the popular content streaming platform – Netflix – will test a new subscription that will also includes ads but it will cheaper than others.
Netflix picked a difficult time to launch this new type of subscription. Netflix has gotten a pretty bad reputation lately and this has caused the number of subscribers to drop. Many decided to quit Netflix because the price of the subscription is too high compared to other platforms and the selection of movies and TV series is not quite up to par.
Adding ads on Netflix will not be a reason for users to quit Netflix. Those who already have a valid subscription will not be affected and the ads will only appear to viewers who opt for a cheaper package. Netflix is not the only streaming platform to go this route as rivals such as HBO Max and Disney+ already explored this. If the price will be fair we might see a Netflix comeback but we’ll have to wait and see.
