When renting a hotel room or an AirBnb apartment you expect to get some privacy and you don’t expect to be recorded on hidden cameras. Well, this was not the case for this family.
Airbnb has become very popular in the last few years for people who are traveling in a new city or country. It’s not exactly cheaper than Booking.com, but if you want a home away from home, Airbnb might be very helpful. Unfortunately, the family in the photo below had a pretty bad experience.
Airbnb user Andew Barker works in IT security and, when he arrived at the AirBnb apartment he rented he decided to scan the wireless networks. He was surprised to see that a camera IP was found in the living room, and the camera was hidden inside a gas detector and it would have been impossible to see it with the naked it.
As soon as the IP of the camera was found, Andrew decided to connect to it and he managed to identify the location where it was installed. The photo below was posted on Facebook, a photo taken with the hidden camera. Andrew did all of this using his Android smartphone.
The Barker family decided to leave the AirBnb apartment and checked into a hotel. They contacted Airbnb officials and also the host. It’s not clear why the host installed the camera, but one thing is for sure: this is against Airbnb rules.
The Barker family was initially disappointed with how Airbnb officials decided to treat this case. Initially, the host was suspended on Airbnb for two weeks but after the news became viral online, the host was permanently banned on
the Airbnb platform.
