Half-Life: Alyx official poster

As promised a few days ago, Valve has officially presented Half-Life: Alyx, the next episode of the extraordinary Half-Life series. The new Half-Life: Alyx has been built especially for Virtual Reality ( VR ).

The story of the Half-Life: Alyx will take place between the events of the first Half-Life and the events of Half-Life 2, and players will get to play as Alyx Vance who, along with her father – Dr. Eli Vance – continue to fight against the threat posed by Earth’s new rulers: the Combine extraterrestrial race.

The Valve return to the Half-Life universe has been especially created for VR, and the gameplay of Half-Life: Alyx will include significant environment interactions, puzzle solving, exploration and – of course – a lot of fighting.

Valve promises many control methods for Half-Life: Alyx, such as direct movement which is so common in non-VR games ( which can provide headaches and nausea for some people ) or teleportation from one point to another which is a feature that has been heavily used by many other virtual reality games.

Although Valve has its very own hardware solution for VR – Valve Index – Half-Life: Alyx will not be exclusively available for this device. Valve confirmed that the Half-Life: Alyx game will be compatible on all VR headsets compatible with SteamVR such as HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, as well as those compatible with the Windows Mixed Reality such as Samsung HMD Odyssey+.

Valve Index players will get access to exclusive content such as the possibility of exploring Half-Life: Alyx gaming environments in SteamVR Home virtual space, additional skins for Alyx’s weapons and Half-Life: Alyx themed content for Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2.

Half-Life: Alyx is built using the Source 2 graphics engine and Valve will provide the gaming community with all the tools needed to create mods and new content.

Half-Life: Alyx will officially arrive in March of 2020 but you can pre-order the game right now through Steam at a price of $44,99. Moreover, Valve Index gamers will get Half-Life: Alyx for free.
