If you own both an iPhone and a PS5, I have great news for you! Backbone has developed a device that turns your phone into a PS5 controller. It’s called the Backbone One PlayStation Edition, and it’s available now from Amazon, Best Buy, or directly from Backbone’s website for $100.
This device is a special edition of Backbone’s standard controller. It’s simple: you put your phone in it like a case, and it connects via the Lightning connector. The device can also connect via Bluetooth to other PlayStation accessories, such as the Pulse 3D headset. Maneet Khaira, CEO of Backbone, talked about this controller on the PlayStation blog.
The device also comes with Backbone’s enhanced application, which offers touch controls for easy navigation without the device being connected to the phone, as well as a feature to switch between controller and standalone modes. The application also features a PS Remote Play section that lets you start or pause games directly from the application hub.
Of course, you can also use this controller to play games from the App Store. Some examples of games with Backbone One support are Genshin Impact, Fantasian, and Call of Duty: Mobile. So, if you are a fan of mobile games, you have several options to choose from.
The design of the device was made to be as similar to a PS5 controller as possible, but I find it funny that I think it looks more like a Nintendo Switch. As for the weight, the controller weighs 138 grams.
Backbone One PlayStation Edition is an interesting device to say the least, and the first to make such a connection between an Apple smartphone and a PS5. I have a question: if you own an iPhone and a PS5: Would you buy this controller or does the $100 price tag seem too high?
