According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple plans to delay the next major system update for its tablets, i.e. iPadOS 16, but iOS 16 remains scheduled for release in September. If this delay happens, it would be very unusual for Apple.
And why? Because in recent years, the major iOS and iPadOS updates have always been released at the same time, in September.
This delay will cause quite a headache for app developers, as they develop their iOS and iPad apps at the same time and do not have the ability to work separately for each OS.
If the delay happens, they will have no choice but to wait until October to release the corresponding apps, or make major updates to already existing apps.
According to Gurman, the delay is due to the fact that Apple needs more time to work on a feature called Stage Manager, which offers users new multitasking capabilities, such as using even more apps at the same time, new options for resizing them, and new ways to manage and group apps.
In the past, Apple officials have also delayed the release of one of the two annual updates, but it was a gap of only a few days between releases. In 2019, iOS 13 was released on September 19, while iPadOS was released on September 24.
