The year 2019 appears to be the year of important updates for Apple. After the release of the iPhone 11 which enjoys success on the market but also from critics, Apple has also released the highly expected upgrade for the Macbook: the new MacBook Pro 16”, with a new keyboard, bigger screen and a few important upgrades.
The new MacBook has been created to be used by professionals but the price has not gone up compared to current models.
We would have expected the new MacBook Pro 16” to add a forth option in Apple’s portfolio over the 15” model, which used to be the top model. Apple decided to replace the old flagship with the new one, and now Apple has a wider and better differentiated selection of laptops: the basic Air model, the 13” MacBook Pro for those who need a powerful but small laptop and the MacBook Pro 16” inches for people who seek a lot of power.
Hardware wise the new MacBook Pro comes with the Intel 9th generation processor, with Core i7 6 cores and i9 with 8 cores available. The top model can reach a boost speed of 5 Ghz and with the new cooling system that can take up to 12W more energy compared to the previous model, should provide two times more performance than the 15” model with the most powerful quad core processor available.
The graphics hardware was also improved. The old graphics chips from the Radeon Pro 500 generation were replaced by brand new chips from AND. We’re talking about the Radeon Pro 5300M and 5500M, the new chips built on the Navi 7nm architecture, the same one AMD has been used for the most powerful graphics chips on computers. This should improve the graphics performance by up to 80% in video editing software and up to 60% in gaming.
We always expect a new laptop to come with better performance but Apple fans were expecting an upgrade which Apple delivered: a new keyboard called Magic Keyboard that looks better and generates less noise. This should ensure a better viability as after a few years users have started to complain about the Butterfly keyboard.
Configuration options were also extended while the battery is now bigger. Those who want the best MacBook Pro on the market will be able to configure the top model with up to 64 GB RAM and 8 TB SSD storage ( a first for laptops ), while the 100 Wh battery promises up to 11 hours of use with a single charge. Unfortunately, despite the name Pro, this model doesn’t come with a microSD as it only provides four Thunderbolt 3 slots with USB Type-C and a headset jack. In the box you will also find a 96W charger and 2 meters long USB Type-C cable.
And not least, Apple added a new audio system which promises better sound and anti-vibration system at high volume along with a new three microphones system for recordings and clearer audio chats. The 16” display provides a 3072 x 1920 pixels with 16:9 aspect ratio. The screen is compatible with the DCI-P3 standard for a wider range of colors and it is able to provide a luminosity of 500 nits.
The basic MacBook Pro 16” model equipped with a 6-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM memory, Radeon Pro 5300M GPU and 512 SSD storage starts from 2700 EUR, the same as the old 15” model. Those of you who want more performance and storage can buy the Core i7 8 core processor, 16 GB RAM, Radeon Pro 5500 and 1 TB storage at a price of 3200 EUR. The new model is available for pre-order right away and deliveries will start on November 26, 2019.
