While chipset production using 16nm and 12nm manufacturing process continues to be the main source of income for TSMS in March as well, the technological progress opens the way to the new 7 nm FinFET manufacturing process, which is superior in what efficiency and speed are concerned.
Already set for mass production in June of this year, the 7nm manufacturing lines are already booked for orders from Apple, Qualcomm and Huawei, TSMS gaining absolute monopoly in this field at least for the next five months.
TSMS will continue to deliver 12 nm chipsets at a lower price. MediaTek also has the Helio P60 chipset which packs features to accelerate artificial intelligence algorithms.
Snapdragon 855 will be part of the first chipset generation built using the 7nm FinFET manufacturing process, the successor of the Snapdragon 845 chipset included in Galaxy S9 smartphones.
Most likely the first series of devices to come with the new 7nm FinFET chipsets will arrive on the market later this year, just in time for the winter holidays shopping spree.
