There were a few patents for a foldable iPhone, but Samsung has taken the lead on this segment of the market by releasing the Galaxy Fold. For this reason, Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, expressed his worry in a recent Bloomberg interview.
Steve Wozniak founded Apple with the late Steve Jobs in the 80’s. While he no longer plays an active role in the company, Wozniak remained a fan of the brand and he was wants Apple to do very well. For this reason the statements he made about the future iPhone should be taken seriously.
In a recent Bloomberg interview, Steve Wozniak also talked about foldable phones in light the more and more interesting devices being presented at the Mobile World Congress 2019. Even if they do not come cheap, many people are tempted by the Galaxy Fold or the Huawei Mate X.
“For a long time Apple has been the leader in fields such as fingerprint authentication, facial recognition and phone payments. Apple is not the leader when it comes to foldable phones and this makes me worry because I want a foldable phone from Apple” Steve Wozniak said.
On the other hand, foldable phones are just starting to come out and Apple is not the only company to stay clear of them for the time being. LG clearly said they are not going to release a foldable phone yet as they are waiting to see if there is demand for such a product. Moreover, even if Steve Wozniak wants one, this doesn’t mean that foldable phones are more useful than regular phones.
Steve Wozniak ended the interview bragging Apple’s long term strategy by saying that Apple was a huge success with the iPhone and now Apple is tackling other fields and most of the business is doing very good.
