Huawei and Samsung already released foldable phones on the market and this segment of the market is going to have a very interesting evolution.
Gartner, a U.S. company specialized in IT market research, has created a study regarding the computers and smartphones market.
Gartner says that consumers will stop using desktop computers but they will not be completely replaced but their sales will drop by 3% in 2019.
Overall, the smartphones market will also drop by 0.5% in 2019 compared to the previous year, but it will grow by 1.2% in 2020.
On the other hand, the demand for foldable phones will fluctuate in the future. Gartner expects foldable phones to be a niche product in the next five years and this because foldable phones come with some challenges regarding manufacturing and their price is also a problem. The $2000 price might be too much for some people.
According to Gartner, foldable phones will have a 5% share of the high end smartphones market in 2023, which means that approximately 30 million users will buy them.
The first foldable phone was the Royale Flexpai but the company was in a hurry to release it as the phone was not very good. Foldable phones from Samsung and Huawei are preferred by consumers.
“We expect users to use a foldable phone just like they are using a regular smartphone” Gartner analyst Robert Cozza says.
